ANDERSON, S.C. – For the second consecutive year, Lake Hartwell has been named as a Top 100 Bass Lake in America by B.A.S.S. Lake Hartwell has received this recognition twice since B.A.S.S. began releasing the rankings in 2012.
Lake Hartwell, Green Pond Landing and Anderson County have hosted numerous bass tournaments including the American Bass Anglers AFT Championship, Ray Scott Championship as well as the FLW Pro Series after being named a Top 100 Bass Lake in 2015. Lake Hartwell is set to host the American Bass Anglers Couples Championship in October and the American Bass Anglers Military Championship in May 2017. Each of these tournaments have significantly contributed to the economic impact in Anderson County.
“More than three months of research went into this year’s rankings,” explained Bassmaster Magazine editor James Hall, who noted that the initial pool of top fisheries was developed with input from B.A.S.S. members from across the country, state fisheries biologists, the 3,500-member B.A.S.S. Council and some of the 650,000 Facebook fans of B.A.S.S.
“Then, we scoured the Internet for current catch-rate data, using the results of more than two dozen tournament organizations and several state ‘lunker’ programs to narrow the field to 100. It’s a brutal process, but the results give bass anglers the ultimate bucket list of lakes for 2016,” Hall said.
“There is one big difference in the rankings this year. The top 10 lakes in the nation are ranked regardless of location, but instead of ranking the remaining lakes through 100, as has been done in the past, B.A.S.S. divided the nation into four regions: Northeast, Southeast, Central and Western.”
“We’re extremely excited to have Lake Hartwell named a Top 100 Bass Lake in America for the second consecutive year! Selfishly, I believe we’re underrated as an elite fishery from a national standpoint. It took 80 pounds in March to win the FLW Tour Event and two weeks later, 78 pounds won the ABA Ray Scott Championship. I’ll put those numbers up against any fishery in America. We continue to have great support from Anderson County, our local community and with Green Pond Landing; we will continue to put our best foot forward and work tirelessly to keep Lake Hartwell among the nation’s best bass lakes.” – Neil Paul, Visit Anderson
“Anderson County leaders are concentrating efforts into our natural resources; specifically, Green Pond Landing & Event Center. The dream of our beautiful lake being experienced not only be the local community, but by the international fishing community. Lake Hartwell has been recognized two years in a row, as one of the 100 best bass lakes in America by B.A.S.S. solidifies Hartwell Lake’s position as an international fishing tournament and water sport competition destination.” – Anderson County Council Chairman Tommy Dunn
