DESCRIPTION:Town of Honea Path\, SC – Chiquola Mill Cleanup Project\nPublic Notice: Submission of EPA Brownfields Cleanup Grant Application and Analysis of Brownfields Cleanup Alternatives \nThe Town of Honea Path is submitting a Brownfields Cleanup Grant Application to the USEPA to conduct cleanup activities at the former Chiquola Mill site\, located at 410 Chiquola Ave. in Honea Path. The property is identified as TMS 275-09-11-003-000. The cleanup work will be performed in accordance with one of the alternatives outlined in the Analysis of Brownfields Cleanup Alternatives (ABCA). The purpose of the ABCA is to evaluate various cleanup/management alternatives for asbestos containing materials (ACM) and contaminated soils. This notice is to\ninform the community of the preparation of the grant application\, the draft ABCA\, and a Public Meeting. \nThe ABCA is available for public comment for 30 days starting October 18\, 2023\, and ending November 17\, 2023. A draft copy of the ABCA will be available at the Town Hall located at 204 South Main St. Also\, the draft grant application is available for review and comment at the Town office\, 204 S. Main St\, from October 18 until November 3\, before the grant is submitted on November 13\, 2023. Both the draft ABCA and grant application are available electronically by requesting them from Mandy Porter at aporter@honeapathsc.com. \nCommunity input is an integral and meaningful part of this type of project\, and public and community-based organizations are encouraged to review the draft grant application and ABCA and provide comments. This matter will be discussed in a public meeting on Tuesday\, October 17\, 2023\, at 5:00 pm at Town Hall\, 204 S. Main St.\, Honea Path. SUMMARY:William States Lee Inducted into the Museum Hall of Fame
DESCRIPTION:Induction ceremony and reception are open to the public. \nThe life of William States Lee will be celebrated with an induction into the Anderson County Museum’s Hall of Fame on Tuesday\, October 17th. Nominated by Michael Gardner\, W.S. Lee was chosen from an outstanding list of people who have made significant contributions to Anderson County and South Carolina. \nMr. Lee\, along with James B. Duke\, played a key role in starting the Duke Energy Company. Lee was an influential member of a powerful regional South Carolina community responsible for a new electric utility industry\, the new south textile boom\, and the future growth of the Piedmont. Lee was looked upon as one of the country’s foremost pioneers in waterpower development. Much of the industrial advancement in the Carolinas can be credited to his individual effort and ability. It is said that he literally changed the industrial geography of these states by his hydro-electric enterprises furnishing energy to a vast network of transmission lines. \nThe Hall of Fame recipient is nominated by the museum Advisory Committee which is appointed by the County Council. Nominees must be deceased for at least ten years before they are eligible to be submitted. The ceremony will begin at 5:30 p.m. on October 17th followed by a reception. Both are open to the public. \nThe award-winning Anderson County Museum is celebrating 40 years of preserving the history and heritage of Anderson County and South Carolina. Located at 202 East Greenville Street in downtown Anderson\, the museum is handicap accessible and admission free. The Fred Whitten Gallery and Whitner’s Mercantile store hours are Tuesday 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Wednesday through Saturday 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. The Roper Research Room is open 1 to 7 p.m. on Tuesdays and by appointment with the Curator.
