The Bass Federation (TBF), announces the 2019 Student Angler Federation (SAF) Lake Hartwell Early Bird Open Challenge High School event on Sunday, March 10 out of Green Pond Landing near Anderson, SC. You must be a SAF member or sign up but there is no entry fee to this event.
The state championship is a two-person team event for students in grades 9-12. Each team can have one member in 7th or 8th grade, if needed. Due to the Federal Safe Sports Act of 2017, there must be 3 people in each boat counting the two anglers and their boat Captain/Coach, no exceptions. All teams should pre-register online for high school events at HighSchoolFishing.org to avoid onsite late fees. Each team and their “coach,” who provides the boat they compete in, will need to check in at 5:30 pm ET on March 9at the Cabela’s store in Greenville, SC. A rule’s briefing will immediately follow at 7:00pm. Take off will be at 7:00am Sunday March 10 and the weigh-in will begin at 3pm from Green Pond Landing.
“TBF and our partners in fishing at FLW is the only organization to offer a state championship, FLW open or SAF Challenge event in every state and Canada,” TBF National Youth Programs Manger Joey Bray, stated. “There’s no question our joint Series provides the foundation to make SAF the largest high school fishing organization in North America and Lake Hartwell is always a popular stop with the anglers.”
The top 10% of each 2019 State Championship event advances to the 2019 TBF\FLW National Championship to compete for the top team prize of a $10,000 scholarship. As an added bonus, national championship teams will also compete in the 2019 High School Fishing World Finals held concurrently and boosting over $150,000 in scholarships and prizes in 2018.

Pay in advance or register for an event online and pay then. There are no entry fees as long as you enter your active/paid SAF membership number at the time of registration!
SAF membership includes full TBF and FLW competitor membership benefits, FLW Magazine e-Edition, online training programs and full insurance coverage for clubs, officers and student members.
In addition to State Championships, FLW OPENs and other SAF Sanctioned events held across the nation anglers advance to the National Championship. All SAF members automatically qualify to compete in the pinnacle of all high school events, the 2019 High School Fishing World Finals for thousands of dollars in scholarships and prizes each year. The World Finals format allows anglers to test their skills against high school anglers from across the nation at a week-long family vacation event, which in 2019 will be held in Florence, Alabama on Pickwick Reservoir, June 18-22. In 2020, the world finals will be on the Mississippi River at Lacrosse, WI and in 2021 it will be held on Lake Hartwell, Anderson, SC. Mandatory Check-in: Saturday March 9, at 5:30 p.m. ET at the Cabelas store in Greenville, S.C.
