Anderson County Council Members Cindy Wilson and Brett Sanders To Serve on Appalachian Council of Governments Board of Directors District 7 Council Member Cindy Wilson and District 4 Council Member Brett Sanders will represent Anderson County Council on the Appalachian Council of Governments Board of Directors for a two[1]year term beginning this January. For Council Member Wilson, this will be her fifth consecutive term on the ACOG Board of Directors, while it will Be Council Member Sanders first term.
The Council of Governments is a voluntary organization of local governments in Anderson, Cherokee, Greenville, Oconee, Pickens, and Spartanburg Counties. ACOG is a multifaceted service organization for local governments, providing public administration, planning, information systems and technology, grants, workforce development, and services for the elderly population. The ACOG works in close collaboration with community partners in building a competitive economy and promoting healthy, livable communities that preserve our residents’ quality of life.
Funding for ACOG’s programs and services comes from a variety of sources, including grants from federal and state agencies, as well as dues from member local governments. Major federal funding sources include the Appalachian Regional Commission, Economic Development Administration, US Department of Housing and Urban Development, Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA), and Older Americans Act.
In their roles as board members, Ms. Wilson and Mr. Sanders will help to oversee the organization, set policy, establish service priorities, and ensure that programs, services, and funding opportunities are targeted to meet the needs of Anderson County and it citizens.
