In what is described as a “major milestone in pediatric emergency care”, the Anderson County EMS system has been recognized as the first non-transport EMS agency in the state to attain recognition as a Pediatric Ready EMS agency, according to information recently released by the South Carolina Emergency Medical Services for Children (EMSC) program.

“We’re going to do what it takes to protect our children—they are our greatest resource and biggest responsibility as a community,” said Anderson County Council Chairman Tommy Dunn.

This achievement highlights the agency’s commitment to delivering high-quality emergency care to children in a pre-hospital setting. It emphasizes the essential role that non-transport EMS units play in stabilizing and supporting ill or injured pediatric patients in critical moments before transport services arrive.

Anderson County EMS showed its commitment to serving its pediatric population by meeting Pediatric Ready standards, which include having pediatric-specific protocols, equipment sizes for all children, and further pediatric emergency care education and training. Anderson County’s dedication to this initiative is a part of a broader statewide program to enhance pediatric emergency care, ensuring that all children receive the best care possible and all agencies are equipped to meet the unique needs of children.
