(Starr, SC) July 1, 2019 – Over the past couple of years, Big Water Marina and Campground has undergone a number of changes to create a space that brings people together to live the ultimate lake life, on and off the water. From site renovations and upgrades to the addition of a new campground, the area has become a premiere destination for residents and travelers to frequent. This summer, the owners teamed up with a local favorite in downtown Anderson—Raines on Main—to open a new tiki-style outdoor bar and grill called Raines on Hartwell. Guests can now visit by boat or car to delight in a variety of a southern dishes and beverages.
“Big Water Marina is the only public place on Lake Hartwell where you can access the lake, sit on the beaches with your family while taking in the scenic view of the mountains, or enjoy a drink and delicious food with friends as the sun sets over the water”, says owner, Trey Boggs. He continues, “This is the atmosphere we strive to create with each new day”.
To take advantage of the new and improved space, the marina often puts together events to celebrate holidays, support causes and provide weekend entertainment for the public to enjoy. For the past few years, the marina has hosted Independence Day celebrations complete with adult and kid-friendly activities. This year’s event will be held on July 4th from 4:00-10:00 PM. The bash will have tons of attractions, including inflatables for kids, a special appearance from Twister the clown, kids craft stations, a golf cart parade, several competitions, a raffle, food and drinks from Kona Ice and Raines on Hartwell, and live music by the Chris Hampton Band. The night will finish off with a spectacular firework show over the lake.
Later this month, guests from all over will be heading to Big Water for one of the biggest annual events hosted by the marina— the Meals on Wheels Hartwell Lake Poker Run. The weekend-long event centers around an expedition across Lake Hartwell that will lead participants to designated stops to gather coupons. The coupons will later be exchanged for tickets that will be entered in a drawing for a chance to win prize money. Throughout the weekend, the marina will also host public parties filled with live music, games, food and drinks for participants and locals to enjoy. The 2019 Poker Run will be held July 11th-13th. Participants can register their boats online through July 7th, or register on-site starting Friday, July 12th. Proceeds from the event benefit the Anderson County MOW program, which provides food to elderly and homebound residents of the area.
