Who We Are & What We Do

The Board of Voter Registration and Elections is responsible for conducting all county, state, and federal elections that are held in Anderson County; to ensure that all elections are orderly, fair, and transparent. The Board also serves as a resource for election support for Municipal Election Commissions.

The seven-member Board of Voter Registration and Elections is appointed by the Governor upon the recommendation of the Anderson County Legislative Delegation. An Executive Director is appointed by the Board to oversee the day-to-day operations of the Board of Voter Registration and Elections.

The Board meets on the second Thursday of each quarter at 4:45 pm at the Board of Voter Registration and Elections Office, 301 N. Main St., Anderson, SC.

Duties & Responsibilities

Conduct local, state, and federal elections:
- Recruit and train poll managers
- Prepare Election Definition and Voting System for voting
- Election Results Tabulation
- Educate citizens on the use of voting system
Serve as Absentee Precinct for all elections
Maintain database of all registered voters in Anderson County
Coordinate with outside Voter Registration Sites
Petition Verification
Public Relations:
- Keep citizens of Anderson County up to date on all Election News
- Speak to civic groups, students, etc. about election procedures (See Outreach Under Voter Registration)

In order to vote in an upcoming election, residents must register to vote 30 days prior to the election.
Precincts are open from 7:00 am until 7:00 pm on all Election Days.

If you have moved, you must first update your residence address with DMV

Download a Voter Registration Form, complete it, and return it to the Board of Registration and Elections Office

Register In-Person

Visit the Board of Registrations and Elections located at 301 N. Main St. Anderson, SC 29621
You can also register while receiving services at various agencies including the Department of Motor Vehicles.
- *State and federal laws, including the Motor Voter Act, dictate that the S.C. Department of Public Safety’s Division of Motor Vehicles must offer voter registration to all citizens. Other agencies also mandated to offer voter registration include military recruitment stations and various other federal and state offices.

Based on state and federal law, each eligible applicant is registered within the proper precinct and various single-member districts. After application is received at the Board of Registration and Elections, you will receive a voter registration certificate confirming that your voter registration application has been approved and processed. Who can Register

In order to vote, South Carolina law requires one must first register to vote at least 30 days prior to the election. To be eligible to register in South Carolina you MUST:

be a United States citizen
be at least eighteen years old on or before the next election
- During the General Election year, 17-year olds who will be 18 years of age on or before the date of the General Election, may register to vote prior to his/her 18th birthday. They may also participate in the primary elections prior to the General Election once registered.
be a resident of South Carolina in the county and precinct in which you are registering
not be under a court order declaring you mentally incompetent
not be confined in any public prison resulting from a conviction of a crime
have never been convicted of a felony or offense against the election laws OR if previously convicted, have served the entire sentence, including probation or parole, or have received a pardon for the conviction.

You may view your Voter Registration Information at anytime online to find your Voter Registration Number, Polling Location, and Voting Districts (if your residence address is correct).

Military and Overseas Citizens (UOCAVA) Voters

Federal law requires states to provide military and overseas citizens with special procedures to help facilitate voter registration and absentee voting by these citizens. The Uniformed and Overseas Citizens Absentee Voting Act (UOCAVA) covers:

members of the United States Uniformed Services and Merchant Marine;
their family members; and
United States citizens residing outside the United States.

Thank you for your interest in the election process! The Anderson County Board of Voter Registration and Elections is always looking for qualified Poll Managers to staff precincts throughout Anderson County on Election Day.

As a Poll Manager, you will have a unique opportunity to serve your community, meet your neighbors, and become involved in the electoral process. Poll Managers are compensated up to $135 and the clerk of the precinct receives up to $195 for each election they work.
