SCAM ALERT | The Anderson County Sheriff’s Office has received reports today of potential scam emails claiming to be from the Anderson County Planning and Zoning Commission.
Anderson County residents who have submitted requests to County Council for community funding may be receiving fraudulent emails in response to those requests. These emails appear legitimate, using Anderson County letterhead and official titles. The message states that the funding request has been approved but requires the recipient to submit payment to the County before funds can be released.
This is not how Anderson County Planning and Zoning or County Council conducts business. Fortunately, the individual who reported the incident recognized the red flags and notified authorities.
- – Verify the sender’s email address. Official County emails will come from an “@andersoncountysc.org” address.
- Contact Anderson County directly at 864-260-4000 to confirm the legitimacy of any correspondence.
- Be aware that any payments to Anderson County are handled only through Certified Mail or the official County Portal, which are secure and trusted payment methods.
If you believe you have received a scam email, do not respond or send payment. Please report it to the Sheriff’s Office immediately!
