Public Notice: Submission of EPA Brownfields Cleanup Grant Application and Analysis of Brownfields Cleanup Alternatives

The Town of Honea Path is submitting a Brownfields Cleanup Grant Application to the USEPA to conduct cleanup activities at the former Chiquola Mill site, located at 410 Chiquola Ave. in Honea Path. The property is identified as TMS 275-09-11-003-000. The cleanup work will be performed in accordance with one of the alternatives outlined in the Analysis of Brownfields Cleanup Alternatives (ABCA). The purpose of the ABCA is to evaluate various cleanup/management alternatives for asbestos containing materials (ACM) and contaminated soils. This notice is to
inform the community of the preparation of the grant application, the draft ABCA, and a Public Meeting.

The ABCA is available for public comment for 30 days starting October 18, 2023, and ending November 17, 2023. A draft copy of the ABCA will be available at the Town Hall located at 204 South Main St. Also, the draft grant application is available for review and comment at the Town office, 204 S. Main St, from October 18 until November 3, before the grant is submitted on November 13, 2023. Both the draft ABCA and grant application are available electronically by requesting them from Mandy Porter at aporter@honeapathsc.com.

Community input is an integral and meaningful part of this type of project, and public and community-based organizations are encouraged to review the draft grant application and ABCA and provide comments. This matter will be discussed in a public meeting on Tuesday, October 17, 2023, at 5:00 pm at Town Hall, 204 S. Main St., Honea Path.
