Guadalupe Franchi received the Debbie Lieu Memorial Award on Friday, April 1, 2022, at Clemson University Brooks Center. John Gaber, Ph.D., AICP, Professor and Chair of City Planning and Real Estate Development presented the award to Guadalupe Franchi.

The Debbie Lieu Memorial Award was established to honor Debbie Lieu’s memory and awarded to one Clemson University MCRP student who shares Debbie’s values of exceptional service to the planning profession and their community. As a promising first-year student in the city and regional planning program, Guadalupe Franchi best demonstrates professionalism and a positive attitude, works effectively behind the scenes, and significantly contributes to volunteer activities as criteria of the Debbie Lieu Memorial Award.

Guadalupe Franchi currently works in the Planning Department as an intern. Ms. Franchi will continue her work through the summer and fall with a concentration on resilience, assisting the Planning Director with floodplain development permitting, as-built, the Anderson County Comprehensive Planning, and coordinating with staff on special projects to include the Town of Pelzer Comprehensive Plan.

“Our department and staff are proud of Guadalupe Franchi’s accomplishment and are very fortunate to work with Guadalupe. We look forward to continuing to work with her, Alesia Hunter, Planning Development & Building Director.

It is an honor and a privilege to have received this award, said Guadalupe Franchi. I’m committed to continuing Debbie’s legacy throughout my career.
