Please have all debris properly and safely placed on the right-of-way by December 16, 2024. The graphic below provides instructions for properly placing storm debris.

The contractor expects to have debris collected by the end of the year in most of the impacted areas. Weather-dependent, continued debris pickup is expected for the first several weeks of the new year in areas with significant storm damage and debris.

Deputy Secretary for Engineering Rob Perry, P.E., said, “This is one of the largest debris missions in the history of our agency. We want to reassure folks that we are coming to help. We know we have properties in our hardest-hit areas that are still waiting for the first pickup. We appreciate the patience of our community members as we work closely with our maintenance forces and contract forces to clean up all of the mess that the storm left in our state.”

Residents having trouble getting debris to the right-of-way due to limited road frontage or debris blocking the way are encouraged to call the SCDOT directly at 855-467-2368.

Since work began in October, nearly 1,800,000 cubic yards of debris have been collected across the state. Please remember to slow down and give space if you encounter working crews.
