Anderson County Fleet Manager Elected Southeast Governmental Fleet Manager’s Association President
Myrtle Beach, SC – Joseph Stone, Anderson County’s Fleet Services Manager, has been elected President of the Southeast Governmental Fleet Manager’s Association (SGFMA) for 2024-2025. Stone will lead the organization’s efforts to support fleet managers across six southeastern states.
The SGFMA is a professional association dedicated to providing training, networking, and resources to fleet and public works managers, supervisors, and support personnel. With over 950 members, the SGFMA represents all levels of government, including state, county, city, school districts, and other public service organizations.
“Mr. Stone’s dedication to fleet management excellence is evident in his leadership of Anderson County’s fleet services department,” said Holt Hopkins, Deputy Administrator for Anderson County. “We are honored that he has been elected to lead the SGFMA and share his expertise with fleet managers across the region.”
Stone joined Anderson County in 2010 and has served as the County’s Fleet Manager since 2014. He leads a team of 19 professional technicians and support staff who are responsible for maintaining the County’s fleet of over one thousand vehicles and heavy equipment. This includes all vehicles for the Sheriff’s Office, EMS, Administration, and all the heavy equipment in Public Works.
Under Stone’s leadership, Anderson County’s fleet management department has implemented several initiatives to improve efficiency and reduce costs. These initiatives include:
- Developing a comprehensive preventive maintenance program
- Negotiating favorable contracts with vendors
- Implementing a fuel management program
