Anderson County will hold a ribbon-cutting event at Dolly Cooper Park on the Saluda River on Monday, April 1st at 10:00 AM to celebrate the completion of a new community playground at the facility.  The event will take place at 170 Spearman Circle, Greenville SC 29611.

The redevelopment efforts at Dolly Cooper Park are the result of an ongoing partnership between the Anderson County Council and Legislative Delegation.  The project received a $500,000 state legislative appropriation, sponsored by State District Three Senator Richard Cash, in addition to a $100,000 donation from the Duke Energy Foundation Water Resources Fund, and a $35,000 grant from SCPRT’s Parks and Recreation Development (PARD) program.  Improvements at the park include a new play structure featuring elements suitable for use by different age groups, poured-in-place fall protection, benches, and picnic tables.

The Dolly Cooper Playground represents the fourth major improvement project along the Anderson County portion of the Saluda River Blue Trail in recent years. Conceived by a consortium of public entities, private sector interests, advocates for the physically challenged, environmental groups, and other stakeholders, the blue trail offers enhanced water recreational and community access on the Saluda River. Along with its sister sites in Belton, Pelzer, and Piedmont, Dolly Cooper Park promotes and preserves our local natural resources through community outreach and involvement. The park serves as the northern anchor of a 20-mile segment of the Blue Trail that ends at the Belton Saluda River Access.

Dolly Cooper Park is owned and operated by Anderson County.

QUOTES

“I am so very happy to see this day arrive! We’ve worked hand-in-hand with the community over the years to fully develop Dolly Cooper Park into the kind of facility that can fully meet the recreational and athletic needs of our citizens, and today we are proud to celebrate yet another important milestone. This is something the people of Powdersville can be truly proud of.”—Jimmy Davis, Anderson County Council District Six

“I am pleased that the General Assembly was able to offer assistance for this important project, especially considering the fact that almost 2,000 children between the ages of two and twelve live in the Powdersville area. Along with recent athletic field improvements, the new playground will help ensure that these kids will have a safe, fun place to grow and play.”—Senator Richard Cash, SC State Senate District Three

“I’m proud to see this project come together. The new playground will be such a blessing to the children of our community, and I look forward to seeing kids playing out here for many years to come.”—Representative Thomas Beach, SC House District Ten
