NOTES:Lake Hartwell is set to host a fun day of bass fishing for Savannah River Division anglers entered in this mid-May tournament. When the circuit visited in May 2018, areas from the Tugaloo River down to the dam held the key fish for winner Kerry Partain. Partain targeted postspawn bass on shoals and points with a weightless Zoom Super Fluke, as well as bedding bass with a Texas-rigged Zoom Fluke Stick. Focusing on postspawn bass on points near spawning flats a drop-shot rig and a shaky-head jig up the Tugaloo and Seneca arms also did the trick for Partain. These patterns and more will likely be in play at next week’s tournament. Other anglers may be seen picking apart boat docks and submerged grass with ChatterBaits and spinnerbaits and jigs. Competitors will likely need to aim for a five-bass limit nearing17 pounds to secure top honors.

The 2019 BFL is a 24-division circuit devoted to weekend anglers, with 128 tournaments throughout the season, five qualifying events in each division. The top 45 boaters and co-anglers from each division, along with the five winners of the qualifying events, will advance to one of six regional tournaments where they are competing to finish in the top six, which then qualifies them for one of the longest-running championships in all of competitive bass fishing – the BFL All-American. The 2019 BFL All-American will be held May 30-June 1 at the Potomac River in Marbury, Maryland, and is hosted by the Charles County Department of Recreation, Parks and Tourism and the Commissioners of Charles County. Top performers in the BFL can move up to the Costa FLW Series or even the FLW Tour.
