The Anderson County Treasurer, an elected official, collects real, personal, motor vehicle, inventory and other taxes and oversees their disbursement to all County, Municipal, School and Special Service Districts. The Treasurer also invests any funds not needed for immediate disbursement.

Real Property tax notices are mailed to the owner October 1st of the given tax year. Payment is due in full on or before January 15th of the following year. Other tax notices mailed in October in addition to real property tax notices include: mobile homes, watercraft, outboard motors, documented vessels, aircraft, furniture-fixture-appliance-equipment (FFAE), S.C. Department of Revenue and campers.
The total tax payment is due by January 15th. If payment is postmarked after January 15th penalties accrue on the following dates: January 16, February 2 and March 17. Please contact our office or refer to the tax notice to obtain the correct amount due.
All vehicles owned by South Carolina residents are subject to property taxes. Vehicle taxes must be paid prior to registering the vehicle with the S.C. Department of Motor Vehicles. Vehicle taxes are paid in advance covering a period of one year.

If payment has not been received after 30 days past the due date of the tax bill, a notice can be sent to the SC Department of Motor Vehicles to suspend your driver’s license and/or registration. If payment is made after the suspension is already in place, you will also need to pay reinstatement fees to the SC Department of Motor Vehicles before the suspension can be released. Reinstatement fees can be paid at any SC Department of Motor Vehicles location or on the SCDMV website.
The Treasurer’s office collects Department of Revenue taxes for depreciable assets owned by businesses operating within the county. There are three categories of Department of Revenue taxes collected within the Treasurer’s office: Business Personal Property, Manufacturing Personal Property, and Merchant’s Furniture & Fixtures. These taxes are based upon information submitted to the South Carolina Department of Revenue by the business via forms PT-100 and/or PT-300.

Jason P. Phillips is the Treasurer of Anderson County, South Carolina. He was elected to this position in 2004 and has served the citizens since that time.
Mr. Phillips graduated from Clemson University in 1998 with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Financial Management with a concentration in Corporate Finance. He received his Masters in Professional Accountancy Degree with a concentration in Internal Audits from Clemson University in 2003.
Mr. Phillips has been employed with Anderson County since 1998. He has six years of experience in the Finance Department as the Principal Financial Analyst and also assisted the Finance Director with the annual budget and comprehensive financial report. In 2000 he became a Certified Government Finance Officer. As a member of the South Carolina Association of Auditors, Treasurers and Tax Collectors (SCATT), Mr. Phillips has been serving as the organization’s Treasurer since 2011.
