Anderson County officials were recently notified of a scam operation in which a customer of the Planning Department received fraudulent invoices via email, instructing them to wire payment to a specific web address.
The scam emails originated from an address with a “@usa.com” domain. Authentic emails from Anderson County will be from an “@andersoncountysc.org” domain. The Planning Department does not accept wire transfers as a form of payment.
Also, Anderson County does not generally accept wire payments. Wire payments are usually accepted only for large sums of money and are arranged with the involvement of the Anderson County Treasurer’s Office. These wire transactions use two-factor authentication methods to protect the parties involved.
If you receive any suspicious emails claiming to be from Anderson County, please don’t hesitate to contact the relevant county office to verify their authenticity.
